Google Docs are probably the best known collaborative tools. With tools that mimic and work with standard word processing, spreadsheet and other applications, Google Docs fills most needs for group work. Group members can be editing a document simultaneously, members will see each others' changes in realtime.

Padlet Padlet (formerly Wallwisher) is a free, collaborative bulletin board. Multiple users can edit the board at the same time and can add images, text, documents, and video files.


Prezi Prezi is a virtual infinite whiteboard. Users can invite collaborators to work on their Prezi. Text, documents, images, and videos are placed on the board and a trail is created. Most recently Prezi added a voice over feature. Caution, students sometimes take full advantage of the zoom and motion features.


VoiceThread VoiceThread allows teachers to set up a secure collaborative environment, your students can collaborate with each other or with a school far away. There are five different ways to contribute, students without access to computers or the internet can even contribute via telephone. The students can comment via text, voice or even by drawing!


Twiducate Teachers set up a secure social networking site for student use. You create the classroom and the login code for use by your class. There is also a mobile version so your students can update from their phones! Twiducate is a new site and is free for educators.


SKYPE Collaborate via voice and webcam with another school in your district or in another country. This is a free application that is simple to use.

Webspiration The tools you probably know from Kidspiration and Inspiration are available online - students can now web together!

Mural.ly Mural.ly is currently free, at least while it is in Beta. Multiple users can add to the mural (images, text, documents, links). All changes are tracked and users can comment or chat while working on the board. A trail through the board is assigned so it functions as a presentation tool.
